Monserrat was plagued by a series of volcanic eruptions in the 1990s, the most devestating of which made half of the island uninhabitable.
This drawing is an homage to the spirit and resilience of the residents of Monserrat, who continue to celebrate life on the island.
“Montserrat's take on the traditional Caribbean carnival runs from mid-December until the New Year. It's a homecoming for several former residents who fled the island after the Soufrière Hills Volcano to come back and enjoy Christmastime and celebrate Carnival.” (https://www.caribbeanbluebook.com/members/93/montserrat-tourist-board/events/283/montserrat-carnival.html)
